The next PTA meeting will be on January 21st at 9:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room. We will be having speakers from Adelphi University's Institute for Parenting. The topic will be 'Helping Parents Develop Empathy and Kindness in Children.' A flyer explaining the presentation will be sent home today in the backpacks.

Dear Parents, Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed spending time with your families and friends. I would like to thank you for attending the Winter Festivals. Your support of our music program is greatly appreciated.
We have embraced grant writing and will receive four grants from Nassau Tract. Mrs. Polant will be awarded $266.70 for 'Listen Up!' She will purchase materials to enhance her listening center. Mrs. Crofton will receive $240.04 for 'Magical Magnetic Letters.' She will purchase materials for her word study center. Mrs. Hayes will be awarded $484.41 for 'Imagination Station.' She will create a literacy based dramatic play center with the funding. Mrs. Hayes also will receive $426.63 for 'Terrific Take Home Literacy Tote Bags.' She will create tote bags filled with literacy activities for students to use with their families.
I would like to acknowledge the teachers who wrote grants that were not awarded funding. Thank you to Mrs. Veltri, Mrs. Groom and Mr. Caparella for your efforts!

Dear Parents, The following was an email blast that was sent out this morning. If you did not receive this information, please contact the secretary, Mrs. Hilton, to make sure that you will receive future notifications.
Over the next few days, the children will be coming home with packages of their pictures with magnets and picture tags. These are a promotion from Lifetouch. If you wish to purchase all or part of the package, the price list is enclosed in the envelope. The price is $12 for one sheet and $20 for both. Mr. Jerry Pallotta visited Locust yesterday. The children enjoyed his presentation and are eager to borrow his books from the library.

Dear Parents, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy spending time with your families. I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with your children each day and to be part of the Locust community.
Jerry Pallotta will visit Locust on December 1st. He is an author who specializes in alphabet books. His titles include Ocean Alphabet, Icky Bug Alphabet and Airplane Alphabet. Dear Families, A flyer was sent home yesterday with information about New York State's Child Restraint Law. All children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system until they reach their 8th birthday, while riding in a motor vehicle. This new law is in effective on November 24, 2009.
